The 2013 MTV VMA's was held at Barclays Center in the Brooklyn borough of New York. Here's our recap from last night's performances and winners:
Lady Gaga opened the 2013 MTV VMA's with a performance that reflected her transition from her first studio album, "The Fame", to the debut of her latest single titled "Applause" from her upcoming "ARTPOP" album. She changed her look live on stage three times, representing each of her albums.
Miley Cyrus pulled out the wild card on stage, her performance was shocking and very amusing to watch. She literally twerked on stage with teddy bears as her back-up dancers, and stuck her tongue out many times. We really have to thank Robin Thicke for trying to save the tragedy on stage with "Blurred Lines" and "Give It To You".
Kanye West's performance of "Blood On The Leaves" was very emotional and theatrical, and set a different tone at the VMA's. The background for his performance was an image of strange fruits hanging from poplar trees. As always, there were multiple subliminal messages in his performance, the "strange fruit" on the trees have been linked to racism and slavery, and his face was the only thing that was illuminated - representing lynching.
Justin Timberlake's extended medley performance consisted of a mash up of hits from "Rock Your Body" to "Mirrors". We went on a trip down memory lane when 'NSYNC reunited on stage at the VMA's and performed "Girlfriend" and "Bye, Bye, Bye". After Justin Timberlake's awesome performance, Jimmy Fallon presented him with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which is only given to those artists who have broken barriers and continue to push the art form forward.
It was all about equality when Jennifer Hudson and Mary Lambert joined Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on stage last night to perform the smash hit, "Same Love". The group had an amazing year, they picked up three moon men last night for Best Hip Hop Video, Best Cinematography Video, and Best Video With A Social Message.
Drake, Bruno Mars, and Katy Perry also performed towards the end of the show, but last night's VMA winners who actually received the moon man were:
Selena Gomez for Best Pop Video
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for Best Hip Hop Video
Taylor Swift for Best Female Music Video
Justin Timberlake for the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award
One Direction for Best Song of The Summer
Austin Mahone for Artist To Watch
Bruno Mars for Best Male Video
Justin Timberlake for Video of The Year
MTV has announced in an article yesterday that Lady Gaga will return to perform and debut the first single off her latest ARTPOP album.
Here's the Scoop:
We told you a few days ago that Lady Gaga has announced the official launch date of her ARTPOP album for November 11th (including alleged leaked tracklisting and album cover information), and now she makes a highly anticipated return to perform at the 2013 MTV VMA's on August 29 at 9pm ET. Lady Gaga hasn't announced which song she will be performing to keep her fans patiently waiting for the debut of her first single off her ARTPOP album.
Below are a two of her memorable MTV VMA performances to get you ready for ARTPOP:
Lady Gaga has been under the radar for the past six months since her unfortunate hip injury, while "little monsters" everywhere are highly anticipating the debut of her fourth studio album (third official LP), ARTPOP.
Here's the Scoop:
According to an article post on www.rollingstone.com by Erin Coulehan (and backed by Lady Gaga's website), ARTPOP will officially launch on November 11, 2013 in two volumes. Lady Gaga's first single from ARTPOP will be released on August 19, 2013 and pre-orders for the album will start on September 1, 2013 (an app accompanying the album will also be available on the same day as pre-orders).
More information about the album (including alleged leaked track information):
German DJ-producer Zedd has collaborated on about five or six songs with Gaga for ARTPOP. "There's obviously more ideas and half-finished songs, but I'm not sure what she will want to put on the album," Zedd tells Rolling Stone. "I just really can't imagine they would not like it, to just say it straight up." Here's his opinion about the work they've created together, "I think the stuff we've made is pretty f-cking cool."
Above is the alleged Lady Gaga 'ARTPOP' track listing and cover, which was leaked the same day as one of her alleged songs from the 'ARTPOP' album titled, 'Feel It'. There is so much speculation about the authenticity of this album cover and track listing because the song 'Feel It' is actually not in this alleged "track listing". I am not even sure myself if this is the real cover and track listing, but I have found a link for you "little monsters" to listen to the unreleased song, 'Feel It' - check it out below:
What I do know for sure, is that Lady Gaga is going back to her 'The Fame' and 'The Fame Monster' roots, but with a way more advanced EDM and POP Culture vibe. I have also left some of my favorite Lady Gaga music videos below with high anticipation and preparation for the official drop of 'ARTPOP' on November 11, 2013:
